DISCOVER MANUFACTURING SCHOLARSHIP

Since 2023, Discover Manufacturing has awarded over $25,000 in scholarships to exceptional students who plan to use their skills and education to make a rewarding career in the Advanced Manufacturing Industry. ​

Multiple scholarships from $500 to $2,000 will be awarded:

 

  • For skilled trades technical training, including continuing education for adults and apprentices.​

​

  • For graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in manufacturing-related programs.

​

Scholarships will be awarded based on interest expressed through an online application and a 500-word essay telling our selection committee “Why manufacturing is the right career path for me and how I plan to make a difference in a manufacturing environment.”

 

Scholarships are renewable up to $1000 for prior recipients based on an application and an interview by the selection committee.  The essay requirement is waived for recipients seeking renewals. Scholarship is available for a maximum of 2 years.

 

Scholarship winner(s):

  • Scholarship winner(s) and their parents/guardians will attend an award reception where winners will read their essays to Discover Manufacturing members and receive their scholarship. 

​​

  • ​​Scholarship winner(s) will also have an opportunity to interact with manufacturers and education partners.

​

HOW TO APPLY

​Scholarships will be awarded based on a 500-word essay telling our selection committee:

 

"Why manufacturing is the right career path for me and how I plan to make a difference in a manufacturing environment." 

 

Essays should include a statement explaining experience, related skills, or exposure to the manufacturing industry, such as participation in events such as First Robotics, mechanical manufacturing work experience, Manufacturing Week events or videos, MiCareerQuest, or other real-life exposure to manufacturing.

Eligibility:

 

  • Students must be a resident of Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Montcalm, or Muskegon county and plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution in Michigan or provide a strong statement of connection to West Michigan on their application.

​

  • ​Essays will be reviewed by the selection committee and used to help identify finalists. 

​​

  • Finalists will be interviewed (virtually or in-person) by members of the scholarship selection committee before determining recipients. ​​

How to apply

Scholarship applications are due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Scholarships will be awarded May 22, 2024.
